Subject: Chicken Abuse on the forthcoming (July 5) episode 6.
Plot: Chickens were given as prizes to the "survivors" in a spear throwing contest on episode 5. A joke was told. Joel and Gervase: "Do you twist a chicken's head off?"

Please Protest ASAP. Urge the program director not to air the episode in which chickens that were awarded as prizes in the spear-throwing contest are to be killed. According to the SURVIVORS rules, "Only designated fruits, vegetables and marine life are allowed to be harvested as food." It also says "acts of violence are against the rules."

United Poultry Concerns wrote: The rule against violence should be consistently applied to all sentient life. This includes the animal representatives of marine life as well as land animals such as chickens. Do not encourage people to think that hurting and killing chickens is a cute, spiffy thing to do. It is not. A chicken is as sensitive as you or I. They make wonderful companions. If the Survivors desire to grow, mentally and spiritually, as well as to survive physically, have them enjoy the pleasure of watching delightful claymation hens and roosters running around the island with their chicks, clucking, crowing, peeping, and being WHAT A CHICKEN CAN BE WHEN A CHICKEN IS FREE. If food is involved in the episode, have the Survivors FEED THE CHICKENS.

Tell the SURVIVOR Program Director: Please cancel any episode in which chickens are injured, killed, or degraded. We Love CHICKEN RUN. Give Us More To Crow About!

Thank you for contacting SURVIVOR ASAP! United Poultry Concerns - June 28, 2000
