“Chickens Under the Bridge:
Animal sacrifice, ritual abandonment
and redemption by the shores of Jamaica Bay,”

New York Daily News, Aug. 21

This powerful video news story by journalist Pearl Gabel is about a homeless man named Mohamed Yaseen, living in New York City, who has made it his mission to rescue and care for chickens who are intentionally left to die, often alone in boxes placed in deserted areas, often after being mutilated by the ritual practitioners.

“The animals are being ritually abandoned — called ‘loosed’ or ‘loose it’ — by practitioners of Kali, a sect of Hinduism that originated in Southern India and was imported to the West by the hard-luck laborers who migrated to Guyana in the 1830s.” Watch the video and read the story here: Chickens Under the Bridge: Animal sacrifice, ritual abandonment and redemption by the shores of Jamaica Bay.
