Jeremy Duerr, District Attorney
Tallapoosa County
395 Lee Street
Alexander City, AL 35010

Dear Mr. Duerr:

I am writing to urge you to convict the two men who savagely beat a Muscovy duck with a baseball bat on May 5, 2019. These two – Jacob Thomas Frye and Thomas “Landon” Grant – allegedly went to the pond at Central Alabama Community College looking for an animal to abuse. They grabbed the duck, beat the duck with a baseball bat, then took the duck to an apartment, put the beaten duck in a bag, beat the duck more, then disposed of the wounded, still living bird in the woods.

We understand that Thomas “Landon” Grant was arrested on May 31 and booked into the County Jail on a Class C felony charge of aggravated cruelty for his “infliction of torture” on this duck. We understand that Jacob Thomas Frye has also been charged for this crime.

Please prosecute Thomas “Landon” Grant and Jacob Thomas Frye and every other participant in this Class C felony attack on the duck. These offenders deserve the strongest penalty under the law for their brutal crime. Please send a message to the community that this crime and similar crimes are not mere college “pranks.” They are felony crimes that produce maximum penalties.

Thank you for your attention. We look forward to your decision.

Sincerely,

Karen Davis, PhD
President
