UPC President Karen Davis Will Speak at Maine Animal Coalition Food Festival
The Salt Gallery, 110 Exchange Street, Portland, April 21, 11AM-4 PM
The Maine Animal Coalition’s Annual Food Festival, Saturday, April 21, 2007, features UPC President Karen Davis and animal law litigator Matthew Penzer as this year’s guest speakers on the theme of “Advocating for Compassion.”
Karen Davis will present “The Truth Behind Poultry and Egg Production: Why I Stopped Teaching English and Started Fighting for Chickens and Turkeys.” Before she was an animal rights activist, Karen grew up in a sport hunting town in Pennsylvania. What led her from there through a teaching career to become an animal rights activist and founder of an organization fighting for the rights of chickens and turkeys? 2PM.
Matthew Penzer, former legal counsel for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, will present “Advocating for Compassion.” Penzer’s work includes lawsuits against KFC for making false statements about the treatment of chickens and other cutting edge legal action for animals. He will speak about advocating for animals for more than 25 years. 12:30PM.
The Vegetarian Food Festival will include vegan food catered by the Pepper Club Restaurant, vegan desserts, exhibitors, educational displays, a raffle and vegan product samples.
Join the crowd on Saturday, April 21 to Eat, Learn & Be Merry!
