Support Anti-Cockfighting Amendment

On October 4th, U.S. House Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-Or) and Tom Tancredo (R-CO) successfully introduced two anti-animal fighting amendments to the Farm Bill.

The Anti-Cockfighting Amendment prohibits the interstate shipment of game birds from states where cockfighting is illegal to one of the three states (Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico) where cockfighting is still legal.

The Animal Fighting Amendment prohibits the export out of the country of birds or dogs for fighting purposes, and increases penalties for any violation of the anti-fighting section of the Animal Welfare Act to two years in prison. In addition, the fine for violation has been increased from $5,000 to $15,000.
