World Farmed Animals Day Event in College Park, MD - Please Join Us

Where: McKeldon Library, University of Maryland, College Park Campus

When: Thursday Sept 30, 2004

Time: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

United Poultry Concerns and the Eastern Shore Sanctuary & Education Center will leaflet on behalf of chickens in front of McKeldon Library at the University of Maryland-College Park, on Thursday September 30 th , in honor and memory of the 9.5 billion chickens who died in US chicken houses and slaughterhouses in 2003, and who continue to be tortured and murdered by the billions.

The chicken industry is conspicuous on the College Park campus - a reflection of the blood money pouring into university pockets from the poultry industry on the Eastern Shore.

On Wednesday, September 29, United Poultry Concerns will publish a full-page ad in the student newspaper The Diamondback describing the suffering and death of chickens and urging students to "kick the bloody bucket and go vegan."

Every day in this country, 25 million chickens are tortured to death in US slaughterhouses. In "Clarification on Stunner Usage" (05/27/04), former chicken slaughterhouse worker Virgil Butler writes on his website: "Every chicken is bled out while still sentient. They hang there and look at you while they are bleeding. Sometimes if they are not completely immobilized by the stunner (which happens frequently), they will try to hide their head from you by sticking it under the wing of the chicken next to them" ( www.cyberactivist.blogspot.com) .

Please join us in sticking up for chickens at the University of Maryland, College Park on September 30 from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM. We will provide handout literature and posters. For more information, call Karen Davis at 757-678-7875.
