Great News! – For The Birds!

Beyond the Cage

On Thursday evening, March 24, the Animal Law Society at the Vermont Law School in Royalton Vermont hosted a lively Symposium featuring UPC President Karen Davis along with the owner of a local organic farm that raises chickens and cows. It was a great opportunity to expose some of the many Inconvenient Truths hidden behind the soothing rhetoric of “humane sustainable” animal farming and be a Voice for the Birds and Vegan Cuisine – of which there was an abundance at this well-attended, receptive audience of law students and faculty.

Thank You, Vermont Law School’s Animal Law Society!

More Good News!

Courtesy of PETA we are pleased to report two cruelty cancelations:

male chick used from egg industry

On April 3, the Riverview Baptist Church in Pasco, Washington planned to hold a cruel “Chicken Chase” activity during which chickens would have been released into an arena to be chased down by frantic children hoping to win baby chicks as prizes. PETA has just learned that the event has been canceled!

Thank you to all who spoke up for the animals
and to the Riverview Baptist Church for its compassionate decision!

Ducklings on green grass

You may recall our asking you to speak out against the Kots Kaal Pato, or "Strangle the Duck," festival in Citilcum, a small town near Izamal, Yucatán, at which animals were viciously tortured and killed for the sadistic enjoyment of participants and attendees. We've just learned that government officials have finally banned this horrific spectacle!

A big thanks for lending your voice to this important issue
and to authorities for doing the right thing! (PETA Alert)

Conscious Eating: Local, Organic, Plant-Based – What are the Most Compassionate Choices?

UPC’s 5th Annual Conscious Eating Conference brought together expert speakers from across the country to Berkeley, California on Saturday March 19 to share their ideas and enthusiasm about the best food choices we can make for the planet, ourselves, and other animals. We had a fantastic day, of which more details will be provided soon, including the availability of each presentation on video!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our wonderful Conference!
