Halal Slaughterhouse opened in Alexandria, VA

An environmental and health disaster for Alexandria.

“I am still fighting it on the federal and state level, along with the Northern VA manager for the implementation of the federal Clean Water Act.” – Carol Kalinoski, Attorney

EXCLUSIVE: Halal slaughterhouse opens, gives away free chickens for first two days in business

The Alexandria, Virginia City Council and the City offices refused to acknowledge the violations of this owner in other parts of the country where it has such slaughterhouses nor did the city council and city officials investigate the boa fides submitted in the owner's special permit application. .

Note the following letter to the Alexandria Times from my colleague:
Opinion: The Colvin Street Slaughterhouse is a Damaging Civic Risk

It should be noted by Mused, the owner of this operation, who has had several violations of health, building, and animal code violations, in other parts of the country where his operation has a "nationwide of slaughterhouses," recently took down his website. Moreover, neither this city nor its district court took notice of these violations.

This is an environmental and health disaster to being in Alexandria and let me not begin with the impact of its slaughterhouse waste to be discharged to the Alexandria Water Treatment Plant due to the condition on the Special Use Permit (SUP) that only has the city of Alexandria "investigate" if the water and "cleaning discharge" exceeds 2500 gallons per day. There are federal regulations regarding any slaughterhouse discharge for toxins, blood, and other soft tissue wastes which have not been addressed by the city. That being said, the city may have an additional penalty due to the pollution this slaughterhouse discharge may make into the Potomac due to the lack of due diligence on the part of the city to have carefully reviewed the SUP application when it came before the city in early 2018 and wildly went through the licensing process despite evidence and legal issues regarding violations of zoning and animal health issues in other jurisdictions where this operation has business.
