Hen Rescued from Florida Live Animal Market

Dear UPC, On May 4th, 2024, Animal Rights Florida, Solutionary Species and Animal Activist Mentorship protested outside a live market in Orlando, FL. In 1996, my wife (Carla) and I attended the March for Animals in Washington DC and it was at that conference that we stopped by the UPC booth and got information about battery cages, forced molting and the horrors chickens endured so people could eat their flesh. It was that information that helped us go vegan and we never went back.

Karen was in our hearts today as we stood outside this market, educating customers and distributing vegan starter kits. Shannon Blair told the owner that today was International Respect for Chickens Day and he surrendered the pictured chicken to us, with the agreement that it not be disclosed where she came from. This hen will be in a home with other rescues and live out her normal life. We named her Karen after the strongest voice for chickens we have ever known. She is greatly missed and we will continue to fight for these birds.
