This week an article in Capitol Hill Blue, Feb. 22, says “Secret Service agents say Cheney was drunk when he shot lawyer” – his quail hunting partner. Click on: http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_8184.shtml

Letter from UPC to Washington Post Letters Editor. Feb. 14, 2006 (unpublished):

Quail hunters make me sick. The kind of men who find pleasure in “busting” small, ground-dwelling quails in a “satisfying cloud of feathers and wreckage” remind me of the aerial bombing in Iraq of ground-dwelling people lacking comparable arsenal. If only the poor little quails could form an insurgency.

Quails mate for life. Both parents care for their young, and remain in family groups that mingle with flocks of 100 or more birds who stay together and protect one another. But against brutes loaded with the accoutrements of ruthless violence, there’s no protection for anyone.
