The following letter was written by John Sanbonmatsu, associate professor of Philosophy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, to Aaron Gross of Farm Forward which promotes “humane” animal products. Free from Harm posted the
letter on October 12, saying: “We thought this letter made some of the most insightful connections between human and nonhuman animal forms of
oppression, especially in the context of the Orwellian nature of ‘humane’ animal products and ‘humane’ slaughter.”

For more about the ethics and efficacy of Holocaust comparisons:
Karen Davis’s book The Holocaust and the Henmaid’s Tale: A Case for Comparing Atrocities examines the legitimacy of
drawing parallels between the Holocaust and the institutionalized abuse of billions of animals on farms (not just “factory” farms!) and in
laboratories including the invisibility of the oppressed and the idea that some groups were “made” to serve others through suffering and
sacrificial death.
"Brilliant: devastating in its analysis and hopeful in its premise."
