Dr. Richard Schwartz, president emeritus of Jewish Vegetarians of North America, professor emeritus at the College of Staten Island, New York and a
founding member of the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos has a terrific article in The Jerusalem Post, August 12, 2013, calling for
transformation of an ancient Jewish holiday devoted to animal sacrifice into “a day devoted to increasing awareness of Judaism’s beautiful
teachings on compassion to animals.”

Relevant to the many excellent points made in Richard’s article is the opportunity for United Poultry Concerns to announce our annual campaign, via
the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos, to replace the cruel and
unnecessary use of chickens in Kaporos rituals with money. Please be on the alert for our alerts about our activities in early September 2013, and how you
can help. And please see Richard Schwartz’s invitation, at the end of his article, for you to contact him at Schwartz@JewishVeg.com if you are interested in celebrating the New Year for Animals this year, and learning
more about it.
