The "chicken roping" is part of the 11th Annual Lincoln County Cowboy
Symposium in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.
The roping consists of a "chicken dropper" dropping a hen or a
rooster onto the arena ground. Then the bird is chased around by a
"header" and a "heeler." The header uses a rope to lasso the chicken
around the neck. The heeler lassoes the bird by the legs. The goal is
to tie up the bird by his or her neck and feet like a sack of meal. A
bird may be used more than once.
Please demand cancellation of this cruel and degrading
"entertainment."
