Conference on Comparing the Holocaust with Other Atrocities to be Held at NYU Law School March 24-25

NYC-March 22 -United Poultry Concerns is pleased to announce a conference on the topic of Inadmissible Comparisons to be held this coming weekend at the NYU Law School. The conference, in Vanderbilt Hall Room 210, at 40 Washington Square South, is co-hosted by New York City-based Lantern Books and the NYU Student Animal Legal Defense Fund.

Inadmissible Comparisons addresses the question of whether the Holocaust can be legitimately compared with African American slavery, the Native American genocide, and the experience of nonhuman animals on today’s factory farms.

Recently, a number of writers and thinkers have sought to draw parallels between the suffering of one group of individuals and another, and incurred the wrath of those who consider their experience unique. This conference explores why such comparisons are offered and asks whether they should or should not be made. It examines the rhetoric and images of those comparisons and the agendas that might lie behind them, while interrogating the need for comparative thinking in the first place.

Information about the conference is on the Web at http://www.upc-online.org.
